Dynamic Host Name Mapping

A number of providers supply free dynamic DNS services whereby a home user connecting through an ISP with dynamic IP addresses (the IP address changes on each new connection) can assocaite a symbolic name with the IP address. This is like controlling a moving target, and works very well.

You can find your current IP address with:

$ lynx -dump http://checkip.dyndns.org
Current IP Address:115.104.109.155

$ wget http://www.whatismyip.org/ -qO - | html2text115.184.19.155
